Sample Diocesan Letters to Support NCEA ACRE in the Field

September 17, 2001

Dear Principal,

Please note the following information concerning the NCEA Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (NCEA ACRE) assessment to be offered again this year. It is Archdiocesan policy that 5th and 8th grade students participate in this religious education assessment. It is an invaluable tool for planning purposes and for curriculum review, for understanding student attitudes and strengthening our core program - religious education.

By now you should have received an order form from CETE (Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation at the School of Education, University of Kansas). If you have not yet received an order form for the revised 2001 edition of NCEA ACRE , please contact CETE at 1-866-367-2383 or cete@ku.edu. The assessment will be administered the week of March 18-22, 2002. Questions regarding the administration of the assessment or the interpretation of results can be directed to Diana Dudoit Raiche of NCEA by calling 202-337-6232, ext. 231.

The schedule for NCEA ACRE testing is as follows:

December 3, 2001 All test materials ordered by this date.
February 11, 2002 All materials shipped to schools.
March 18-22, 2002 Grades 5 & 8 testing week.
Allow two 40-minute class periods.
March 27, 2002 Tests mailed directly to CETE
May 14, 2002 Test results returned to the school.

To ensure safe delivery of completed tests to CETE following the administration of the assessment, it is best to send by registered U.S. mail or by companies that can track your shipment such as UPS or FedEx. Note: DO NOT send completed tests to NCEA.

Please call if we can be of assistance or if you have questions.

Sincerely in Our Lord,
