NCEA Is Pleased to Announce Two Sessions by Mr. Thomas A. Thibodeau

Distinguished Professor of Servant Leadership
Viterbo University, La Crosse, WI

Servant Leadership Retreat

Sunday, July 16, 2017
2 - 4:30 PM

The Meal That Changed The World

In the breaking of the bread and the washing of feet, Jesus changed the world. We have all been called to do the same in our families, churches, schools and communities. Together we will recognize, nurture and celebrate the sacredness of our lives and our work. This is an interactive session. The integration of contemplation and action within a community is foundational to the understanding and practice of servant leadership. The afternoon's agenda includes an examination of who you are as a leader, engagement in Lectio Divina and reflections on leadership and character development.

Keynote Address

Tuesday, July 18, 2017
9 - 10:30 AM
The Positive Power of Servant Leadership

Mr. Thibodeau will reflect on servant leadership as a Gospel-approach to service and leadership that is both timely and timeless. He will situate servant leadership within a scriptural and sacramental context that is rooted in social justice.

"Fascinating material! Very well presented."

Speaker: Jaclyn Day

Dr. Timothy Uhl Interviews ICSL Speakers

Dr. Uhl interviews six presenters at this summer's NCEA conference for presidents & principals: Dr. Dan McMahon, Nick Regina, Dr. Richard Gray, Dr. Kathy Walsh, Tom Thibodeau, and Dr. Jerry Deegan. In the course of these conversations, recurring themes emerge centering around current issues in Catholic education.

Featured Sessions

Jerry M. Deegan, Ed.D.
Vision without Traction is Hallucination
Attendees will learn about an entrepreneurial operating system that is a business operating model that helps set and remain focused on the school’s vision, define strategy, address long and short term work and goals and make meetings more efficient and productive. The system addresses a variety of frustrations that occur and demonstrates how it can bring clarity, efficiency and accountability to administrative and other teams in the school.

Daniel McMahon
21 Practices for Principals (and Other School Leaders)
Attendees will learn numerous practical strategies for building and evaluating the health of their school communities, which they can take back to their schools and implement for little or no cost. Attendees will gain a deep understanding of the research and philosophical infrastructure that supports leadership in Catholic schools.

Merylann "Mimi" J. Schuttloffel, Ph.D.
Thinking Like a Catholic School Leader
Attendees will learn about the contemplative, or mission-centered, practice model and how it can assist school leaders to think with a distinctive mindset for their roles. This interactive session will address how to develop a contemplative mindset and how that will impact faith formation within a school community. Reflection and action, based in Catholic theology and teaching, is the heart of contemplative practice. The school leader’s role to integrate Catholicity into all facets of school life will be discussed through the exploration of vignettes.
