Msgr. Jeremiah McCarthy

Seminary Department
Msgr. Jeremiah McCarthy became the executive director of the Seminary Department in September 2010. He is a priest of the Diocese of Tucson.
Prior to his arrival at the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), Msgr. McCarthy was professor of moral theology and academic liaison officer at St. Patrick's Seminary, Menlo Park, California.
From 2002 to 2009, he was director of accreditation and institutional evaluation at the Association of Theological Schools in Pittsburgh. Before that, he served for twenty years at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California, as professor of moral theology, academic dean, vice-rector, and rector.
Msgr. McCarthy is taking the seminary department in new directions, including work as a consultant to U.S. seminaries on accreditation, institutional advancement, and related fields. He is editor of Seminary Journal, and is supporting a grant-funded initiative on international priests.
Msgr. McCarthy received his BA and MA degrees from St. John’s Seminary College in Camarillo, California. He earned a PhD in moral theology from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, and an STL from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley.
Established in 1904, the NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world, representing 200,000 Catholic educators serving 7.6 million students in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, in religious education programs, in seminaries, and in colleges and universities.
