Council of the Diocese of Paterson
Clifton,
New Jersey

The 12 members of this consultative council come from the variety of demographic areas in the diocese. The characteristics which make it effective are the multi-faceted perspective its diverse members bring, its vibrant committees and subcommittees, its liaison of council members with schools experiencing difficulties in viability, and the Catholic identity and commitment of its members, who are very involved in the work that needs to be done.
The council has been very involved in long-range planning, especially in regard to the growing Catholic population in rural areas. Work also included recommendations for improving teacher salaries, which have been presented to the bishop. A Strategic Marketing Plan has been developed for the five high schools. Council representatives work with the schools on action plans and results on a bi-monthly basis.
Through its work in long-range planning, teacher compensation, and strategic marketing, this diocesan council is providing crucial support that undergirds the schools of the diocese.
