2003 Outstanding Board Award
The
Northwest High School Board
West Hartford, Connecticut

Fifteen years of hard work, strategic planning, and a commitment to Catholic Identity have paved the road to success for this 17-member board in its quest to expand Northwest High School and its programs. Along the way, this advisory group established an endowment fund; renovated 12 science laboratories, classrooms, and lab preparation rooms; and raised $3.1 million to support recent facilities expansion.
This expansion was completed on time and on budget, due in no small part to the board’s attention to detail. For one year, it set aside a portion of every meeting for in-depth consideration of each part of the expansion project.
As if that weren’t enough, the board now has begun a three-year budget and tuition-forecasting project.
New members of the Northwest Catholic High School Board are nominated by current members and selected by the archbishop. Apparently, they and he consistently choose well.
