2003 Outstanding Board Award

St. Paul the Apostle School Advisory Council
Dallas, Texas

In the late 1980s, St. Paul School stood on the threshold of extinction. The advisory council we honor today, comprised of nine elected parents and parishioners, contributed mightily to the schools turnaround. The group initiated strategic planning, launched community-building activities, and gleaned new sources of financial support, which continue to fuel St. Paul in its mission of academic excellence and faith development. The school’s annual auction, earning more than $125,000 a year, is a jewel in this council’s fundraising crown.

This hardworking group has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to collaboration. Every spring, the group sits down with representatives of the home and school association and booster club, along with faculty members to garner input, establish goals and enhance the planning process.

The results of their efforts speak for themselves. Most recently, the council created an endowment, improved technology, renovated the school’s courtyard, enhanced cultural arts, and generated community involvement. It has also demonstrated a firm commitment to bolster teachers’ salaries in a significant way.
