2003 Outstanding Board Award

St. Thomas More Parish School Board is a limited jurisdiction, policy-making body, comprised of just seven members and the pastor and principal.
But there is nothing small in Texas. This board is a mighty mite, the fiscal foresight and cleverness of which have allowed the school to keep tuition comparatively low while raising the salaries of teachers. It ferrets out money for innovative instructional programs and strategies, budgets for annual facility enhancements, and builds upon technological capabilities.
Like all successful governance bodies, this group works from a strategic planning model, including a five-year rolling technology plan. It communicates its goals to the community, ensuring support and accountability, and works conscientiously with the parish and parish committees. And as accomplished as it is, the St. Thomas More Parish School Board never loses sight of the fact that it exists to support, not to usurp, the leadership roles of the pastor and principal.
