This is the only self-assessment tool designed for Catholic school boards, commissions, and councils. The package contains everything your board needs to build on its strengths and to improve the areas in which it is weak. A Guide Book leads you through the process.
First, each member completes two questionnaires. Questionnaire 1 assesses the current style of board functioning. Questionnaire 2 stimulates creative thinking and visioning about the school's needs and how they might be addressed.
Second, all copies of Questionnaire 1 are sent to NCEA, where staff score them and send back a summary report. (This service is included in the price.)
Third, the board members and administrators hold a planning retreat. The data from the two questionnaires and corresponding material from Benchmarks of Excellence assist the board to develop steps to strengthen the board's functioning in each of its areas of responsibility. The Guide Book provides an agenda and process. An outside (neutral) facilitator is usually advisable. Department of Boards and Councils staff who are skilled at this process and have a broad perspective are available to contract for this service.
The Measuring the Mission package contains:
- 1 Guide Book.
- 1 Demographics Sheet.
- 1 copy of Benchmarks of Excellence: Effective Boards of Catholic Education, to which the questionnaires are linked.
- 10 copies of Questionnaires 1 and 2 (Additional copies should be ordered, if necessary, so that all who work with the board can participate, including administrators, pastor, etc.).
- Agreement by the boards department to tabulate responses to Questionnaire 1 and send back a summary report.
Note: Two versions of the questionnaires are available. When ordering, you must specify whether it is a policy-making board or an advisory or consultative board.

$140 - Not a member of NCEA
$115 - Institution is a member of NCEA but the board is not a member of the NCEA Department of Boards and Councils*
