2005 Outstanding Board Award

Saint Pius the Tenth School Advisory Board

The 12-member advisory board of this K-8 school has been in existence more than 20 years. It operates from a long-range plan with action items and timelines, which is updated annually and published for all stakeholders. This has led to a renewed emphasis on Catholic spirituality, increasing teachers’ pay to 85% parity with public schools, a new music department, a revitalized program, a comprehensive look at technology, a renovation of the library, an upgrade of the HVAC system, a new teachers’ lounge, and construction of additional bathrooms. The board leads fundraising initiatives, a portion of which goes to an endowment fund that provides tuition assistance in the hope that any Catholic child who desires to attend will be able to do so.

Strong committees are another key element. For example, the Spiritual Committee conducts activities to strengthen the spiritual life of the students.
