2005 Outstanding Board Award

This 28-year-old advisory board’s 19 members consist of local pastors, principals and other professional educators, parents, and business professionals. All have had experience on a local board of education. It operates from the Action Plan of the Strategic Plan and reorganized into seven committees that are more closely aligned with the Action Plan. The committees are Governance, Marketing and Advancement, Public Policy, Curriculum and Personnel, Operations (formerly Finance), Catholic Mission and Identity, and Nominating. Committee chairs and co-chairs are board members. Committees operate with goals, completion dates, and evaluation worksheets
The board has been especially instrumental in identifying and addressing the various challenges of declining enrollment, especially among African Americans and immigrant communities. The Governance Committee is developing a new model based on the Center City Consortium in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. This board actively works with local boards and holds its meetings at various schools, encouraging local board members to participate. The effectiveness and openness of this board is a model to local boards.
