Symposium on Adolescent Catechesis
Diocese of Cheyenne
February 2008
At the invitation of Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Cheyenne, Wyoming, five members of the Partnership on Adolescent Catechesis (PAC) team traveled to Caspar, Wyoming February 15-17, to address with diocesan and parish leaders the question: "How do we evangelize and catechize young people in Wyoming so that they develop a lifelong relationship with Christ and the Church."

(From L to R) Bob McCarty, Sr. Eileen McCann, CSJ, Ela Milewska, Bishop David Ricken, Diana Dudoit Raiche, Mike Theisen, Lee Nagel
Over three days the team presenters, Diana Dudoit Raiche from NCEA, Bob McCarty and Michael Theisen from NFCYM, Lee Nagel from NCCL, Sr. Eileen McCann, CSJ from USCCB, with technical support from Ela Milewska, administrative assistant for PAC, addressed that question from several perspectives in a Symposium on Adolescent Catechesis.

In addition to parish catechetical and youth leaders, the event was made more rewarding with the presence of Bishop Ricken, pastors and the youth advisory council made up of high school students.
Parish-based youth ministry is vital to the Diocese of Cheyenne, which comprises the state of Wyoming. A mission diocese with several Catholic elementary schools it has no Catholic high school. It does have a Catholic Youth of Wyoming Charter created by the youth themselves. An impressive statement of what the youth of Wyoming want, three of the sixteen statements in the Charter are these expressions of youth's desire to
....learn our Catholic faith;
....live among emotionally mature, spiritually healthy adults;
....claim our Catholic Identity.

The Wyoming Symposium precedes the National Symposium on Adolescent Catechesis to be held in Baltimore November 2008.
