The Year of Faith YouTube Video Contest invites participants to create a 60-90 second video highlighting the learning from reflection on service by students enrolled in a Catholic school or parish religious education program. The videos must convey how the Gospel is proclaimed through service within the following parameters: 1) an invitation to Christ, 2) serving Christ, and 3) connection to the Church.

 

Eligibility   Judging Guidelines and Timeline
The Year of Faith YouTube Video Contest is open to active members (individual or school/parish-based) of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Read the official contest rules here.  
  • Contest entries begin December 1, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. ET and will be accepted until January 31, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
  • Judging will begin February 1, 2013. All finalists will be notified no later than March 5, 2013.
  • A panel of distinguished judges from NCEA and intelliVOL will choose the finalist videos among eligible entries.
  • Winning videos will be judged on effectiveness in the connection between service and faith in Christ, originality, creativity, adherence to the theme that the love of Christ fills our hearts and impels us to evangelize, and overall quality.
 
   
Overview   Prizes
Inspired by "'Caritas Christi urget nos' (2 Cor 5:14): it is the love of Christ that fills our hearts and impels us to evangelize" (Benedict XVI, Porta Fidei, #7), the NCEA and intelliVOL (official contest sponsors) invite students in grades 7-12, and guided by religious educators at Catholic parishes and schools served by the NCEA, to reflect upon this Year of Faith in a video format. Porta Fidei is the apostolic letter announcing the Year of Faith, from October 11, 2012 through November 24, 2013.  

One (1) grand prize winner will receive:

  • One (1) complimentary NCEA professional individual membership;
  • One (1) complimentary x2VOL online community service system (where eligible);
  • One (1) Flip video camera;
  • Two (2) complimentary Best Value Registrations to the NCEA 2013 Convention & Expo in Houston, Texas.

Two (2) runner's up will received:

  • One (1) complimentary NCEA professional individual membership;
  • Complimentary one-year subscription to the NCEA Live Learning Center.
 
   
How to Enter   Additional Rules and Forms

All participants MUST review and adhere to the official contest rules.

  • Post your video anytime between December 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013 to your YouTube account, making sure to tag the video with the wording, "yearoffaithvideo."
  • Adhere to all YouTube terms and contest rules conditions.
  • Email your entry (or complete this form and attach to an email to reled@ncea.org), which must include responses to the survey (outlined in the email form), the link to your video on YouTube, agreement to the terms of the contest rules, the YouTube username, your school/parish mailing information, NCEA member ID number, and contact information for video inquiries.

Video Tips   Video Guidelines
  • Have fun and learn something!
  • Be sure to follow the contest rules requirements for clearances, licenses, and permissions.
  • Start with reflecting on where you have seen Jesus Christ or acted like Christ in your experience of being of service to others.
  • Working as a group, choose the message you want to communicate and decide what images, words, and sounds will deliver that message.
  • Use available video creation tools, like iMovie, Moviemaker, or Animoto to create a 60 to 90 second video.
  • Make sure your video format can be posted to YouTube.
  • Pilot your video among a group of teens and ask for feedback on if your video meets the evaluation criteria (see Judging Guidelines).
 
  • All videos must be of original creation, with run length between 60 and 90 seconds.
  • Speak to the primary audience for this video, who are other teens.
  • Be sure the message of your video illustrates Caritas Christi urget nos, inviting others to know Christ more deeply, to share his love through service, and to sustain that love through connection to parish life.
  • Include narration of young people sharing this message.
  • Only one entry per parish or school religious education program is allowed.

Finalist videos will be featured on NCEA's Facebook page and at intelliVOL's website.
