Are you interested in presenting to Catholic secondary school administrators, educators, board members, and others on an educational model, program, or approach to some of the most pressing needs facing Catholic secondary schools today? If so, please consider submitting a proposal to present with the Secondary Schools Department at the 2009 NCEA Convention in Anaheim. (That’s right, Disneyland!)

This conference is for principals, assistant principals, department chairs, curriculum leaders, assistant superintendents, and teacher leaders. Through workshop and networking sessions, nationally recognized educators connect theory and research-based practices to Catholic school instructional leadership needs and experiences. Participants gain knowledge, resources, and tools, and have the opportunity to network with other Catholic educational leaders.

PURPOSE:
The Conference will benefit Deans, Assistant Principals and all secondary school officials responsible for student affairs. Led by a dynamic team of experienced practitioners and educational leaders, the conference will:
- Present workable solutions to practical, everyday questions
- Introduce innovative techniques to sustain community-centered schools
- Provide instruction on school-wide methods to work through campus problems
- Understand how to link policies directly to the values and mission of the school
- Help design professional development plans based on personal leadership styles that achieve the school community participants aspire to lead
COSTS:
Registration costs $495 per person and lodging costs $155 plus tax per night. Register two or more participants and pay $425 per person. To register for the conference, complete the form here:

Held at the newly renovated world-famous Hyatt in San Francisco, the conference location provides easy access to city attractions such as the Cannery, Harbor Cruises, Ghirardelli Square, cable cars, Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill and more.

Program and Project Highlights
The Secondary Schools Department has created a color brochure that features highlights of our department’s programs and projects for 2007 – 2008. This document, distributed to members during our department's Annual Business Meeting at this year's Convention, brings to light a few of the many ways that NCEA can be of service to your school. Every Fall the Secondary Schools Department hosts 16 or more regional meeting each school year to discuss issues of regional and national interest. Be on the lookout for information about the meeting in your region. Click here for dates and locations. Your Regional Representative will provide details for the meetings over the summer and fall.
Secondary Schools Department Awards
Every Year at the NCEA Convention & Expositon, the Seconday Schools Department honors outstanding Catholic secondary school educators during the Department's Award Convocation. Blue Ribbon Schools Program
The No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. Blue Ribbon recipients will be national models of excellence that others can learn from.
Of the 50 Blue Ribbon Schools recognized this year, 37 elementary schools and 3 high school were Catholic schools. Congratulations to Carmel Catholic High School, Mundelein, IL, Covington Catholic High School, Park Hills, KY and Lexington Catholic High School, Lexington, KY as well as all schools who were honored. Representing Catholic Education at the International Confederation of Principals (ICP)
ICP is a global association of school leadership organizations. Sr. Mary Frances Taymans, SND, Ed.D., Executive Director of the Secondary Schools Department represents the NCEA. They recently met here in our nation's capital, Washington, DC. Click here to view pictures.
Frontiers of Justice
Frontiers of Justice, a joint program of Catholic Relief Services and the National Catholic Educational Association is a program designed to provide a short-term, firsthand experience of the developing world for Catholic high school teachers and administrators. FOJ participants visit CRS project sites and begin to build solidarity with our brothers and sisters overseas in a spiritual context, specifically reflecting Catholic Social Teachings on global solidarity.
Applications for next year's program will be available here in the fall.
Six secondary school educators have been selected to participate in Frontiers of Justice 2008. The participants will meet in Baltimore, Maryland for two days of orientation beginning on June 25th and depart June 27th for two weeks in Burkina Faso and Ghana. For the past three summers, NCEA, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has taken a courageous step toward promoting global solidarity, peace and justice in the Balkans by sending a delegation of Catholic secondary school educators to Kosovo as part of the Frontiers of Justice (FOJ) program. Now in its 10th year, Frontiers of Justice is designed to provide Catholic educators with a firsthand experience of the people and culture of a developing country. As the people of Kosovo seek to find common ground, consider using the following prayer service, created by Neal Deles and Sr. Katherine Feely, SND, as we pray for peace in Kosovo and other areas of conflict in our world.
