Secondary Schools Department
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
 
The Executive Committee of the Secondary Schools Department in collaboration with the President of NCEA has established a Search Committee to recruit and recommend candidates for the position of Executive Director of the Secondary Schools Department. Candidates should express their interest by April 19, 2010, by sending a letter of interest and detailed resume to:

Initial screening of qualified candidates will begin after April 20, 2010. The search committee will ask for additional information from the selected candidates after the initial screening including references. Interviews will take place shortly thereafter at a site to be determined. The starting date is negotiable.
 
Academic Qualifications:            
  • Post-Graduate work appropriate for the position;
  • Master’s Degree Required, Doctorate preferred;
  • Demonstrated expertise in Catholic secondary school education and administration; demonstrated leadership for the professional development of personnel and advocacy for Catholic high schools in the areas of educational reform, public policy and current trends in education;
Professional Qualifications:       
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in Catholic schools;
  • Evidence of successful administrative experience in a Catholic educational setting, preferably as a Catholic high school principal or head of school;
  • Demonstrated leadership on local, regional and/or national organizations or committees;
  • Evidence of representative research, publications and/or workshops;
Personal Qualifications:  
  • Practicing Catholic committed to the mission of Catholic education who advocates values, vision and lifestyle compatible with a position of national leader in Catholic education;
  • Ability to be an articulate spokesperson who communicates the mission of Catholic education orally and in writing to broad internal and external constituencies;
  • Strong leadership and advocacy skills with the ability and willingness to delegate, motivate, communicate and collaborate with colleagues, constituents and staff;
  • A respected leader who possesses strong interpersonal, communication, planning and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge skills in the use of technology that will enhance the mission of the Association and the Secondary Schools Department;

  • The President of NCEA
  • Executive Committee of the Secondary Schools Department as outlined in the by-laws of the Association and the Secondary Schools Department

$90,000 to $104,000

Job Description:  Executive Director, Department of Secondary Schools
 
The Executive Director reports to the President of the NCEA and to the Executive Committee of the Secondary Schools Department. The responsibilities of the Executive Director include those related to the secondary school membership and to the needs of the Association as a whole.

Service to Members

The Executive Director is responsible for framing the response to the secondary school membership through advocacy, research and service. The Executive Director will promote the objectives of the Secondary Schools Department as stated in the bylaws of the Department in order to stimulate interest in Catholic Secondary Education and institute and further from a Catholic point of view:
  • To study of issues in education, particularly those that impact secondary education;
  • To provide an open forum for the discussion of challenges in Catholic education that are of general and timely interest to secondary school administrators and teachers;
  • Disseminate mutually helpful information regarding secondary schools, address current issues and engage the members in discussion through all available communication tools.

Service to Staff

The Executive Director is responsible for cultivating a professional staff that will assist in serving the membership and the Association. The Executive Director will:
  • In collaboration with the Association President, hire and evaluate the department’s staff.
  • Coordinate the work of the Department and align the strategic plan with the shared priorities of the Association in collaboration with the Executive Committee.
  • Provide the staff opportunities for professional development and growth.
  • Promote a collaborative approach to the department’s projects.

Service to the Association

The Executive Director is a significant part of the management team of the Association as a whole, advocates for the secondary schools and works to promote a spirit of collaboration across the Association. The Executive Director will:
  • Promote the objectives of the Association as outlined in the NCEA constitution and by-laws.
  • Prepare and mange the department budget as approved by the NCEA Board of Directors.
  • Participate in Association and interdepartmental committees and meetings as requested by the President
  • Participate in specific projects as requested by the Board of Directors and/or the President.

Evaluation

In collaboration with the Executive Committee, the President of NCEA will provide an annual review of the Executive Director. As per the Secondary Schools Department by-laws, the Executive Committee will evaluate the Executive Director via a mutually agreeable protocol every three years for the expressed purpose of determining and/or recommending reappointment to the President of the Association for another three-year term.
