This newsletter is a monthly update of information designed to support the ministry of the Catholic high school, a service provided for you by the Secondary Schools Department of the National Catholic Educational Association. This newsletter highlights programs and events focusing on and supporting administrators, educators and students. We hope you find this information helpful as the summer break ends and the new school year begins.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

Be on the lookout for your membership renewal letter.  There are two types of membership in the Secondary Schools Department – regular and Premier.  If you are not a Premier Member now, please consider renewing this fall at that level.  Among the benefits of Premier Membership: your school will have six more subscriptions to all NCEA and Secondary Schools Department publications (like this ENews!) and special discounted rates for Secondary Department conferences.  If you have any questions about your membership, please contact the Member Services Department at 202-337-6232 or via email: member@ncea.org.  Most importantly – thanks to ALL of our members for your support and involvement!

INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION OF PRINICIPALS
Through your NCEA membership, you are a member of the International Confederation of Principals, the world-wide community of school leaders. ICP Online, at www.icponline.org, is one way to learn more about what ICP membership means for you and a source of papers and articles on topics closely related to your work in your school. You have access to the Members Area of ICP Online by signing in as ncea  the password is washington . You also have access to a set of discussion forums for seeking and giving assistance to your colleagues around the world. And there are other facilities there as well. The ICP hopes that you find ICP Online a useful adjunct to the local resources that can help you in your work
 
OPPORTUNITY FOR MATH TEACHERS
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Classroom-Based Research Grants for Grades K-12 Teachers are to support and encourage classroom-based research in pre-college mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. Maximum Award: $8,000. Eligibility: The applicant must be a current NCTM member. The college or university mathematics educator must be a member of the NCTM. TEACHERS PAY TEACHERS
Teachers Pay Teachers is a new, online marketplace for educators to buy and sell original course materials.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
 
United States Senate Youth Program
The William Randolph Hearst Foundation is sponsoring the 45th annual United States Senate Youth Program.  The Foundation will pay for all expenses for students chosen to participant in the program March 3-10, 2007 in Washington, DC.  Each participant also receives a $5,000 scholarship.  Deadlines vary by state.  See www.ussenateyouth.org for more information.
