Benefits Provided to Members
In addition to representation of your concerns as a Catholic educator, membership in the National Catholic Educational Association entitles you to several benefits.
Memberships Types and Considerations
Membership in the association can be either individual or institutional and the type appropriate is contingent on the professional responsibility of the person seeking membership. For example, a person who is the administrative head of a member school (principal, president, headmaster, etc.) is ineligible for individual membership. In that case, the individual is automatically a member by virtue of his or her institution's membership in the association.
Institutional membership means that the school is a member of NCEA, also conveying membership benefits for the faculty, professional staff and others who may be involved in the institution's educational efforts. Benefits such as NCEA Notes and Momentum are extended to the school through its head. An example of the extension of benefits could be a volunteer chair of an institution's development committee. That volunteer qualifies for member pricing when purchasing association publications or registering for association events. In some professional areas, however, the school and the individual volunteer will be better served if two memberships are considered. Where an elementary school is involved and benefits are being sought for a school board, the institution should consider both the elementary department institutional membership and membership in the Department of Boards and Councils. The board department's member services are more specific to board person's responsibilities and will be more likely to offer services needed by the school's board person.
A more focused type of institutional membership is premier membership. Premier membership in the Elementary and Secondary Schools Departments grants a member school all the institutional benefits of membership, including Momentum and NCEA Notes and extends these benefits to six additional designated people. The additional fee for Premier membership is $150, and perhaps less, contingent on schools enrollment. Premier membership is an inexpensive way to include additional people in the mailings of the department where they are Premier members. For many institutions, this has proven an effective way to ensure that the chairs of parent organizations, pastors, campus ministers and other key administrators receive their own materials from the association. There has consistently been great value for the member dollar associated with Premier membership.
