Department of Secondary Schools
As the new Executive Director of the NCEA Department of Secondary Schools, Philip Robey re-examines the NCEA mission from an administrative lense, and how that mission will apply to Catholic secondary schools now and in the future.
Headline: The sixth annual Instuctional Leadership Conference has been scheduled for November 11 to 13, 2010 at Loyola University Chicago. It convenes under the theme of "Leading Mission-Driven Schools," and outlines the porspective outcomes for participants. Headline: The Secondary Department's executive committee will meet with new Executive Director Philip V. Robey Sept. 18 to 22 in St. Louis to plan the department's future direction and discuss how it can best meed the needs of its almost 1,200 member institutions. Department of Chief Administrators Headline: NCEA Executive Director Daniel Curtin announces the start of registration for the 2010 Chief Administrators' of Catholic Education (CACE) aunnual meeting. It will be held Oct. 24 to 27, 2010, at the Renaissance Mobile Biverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Alabama. the theme for this gathering is Called to be Prophets. Headline: The Department of Chief Administrators' of Catholic Education (CACE) is proud to announce plans for the fifth annual Superintendents' Academy, which will be held Oct. 22 to 23 in Mobile, Alabama. It will take place at the same location as the CACE Annual Meeting. Daniel Curtin pays tribute to associate executive director Timothy W. Dwyer, who passed away on Aug. 23, 2010 at the age of 56 after months of fighting an aggressive form of cancer. He was a "dedicated professional who accomplished much to strengthen and sustain Catholic schools for the future..and has left us a legacy for which we will always be grateful." Department of Boards and Councils Executive Director Regina Haney reflects on the success of collaborative leadership in shaping the future of Catholic schools, even at a time where they are experienceing fragility. She also establishes suggestions for the role of the board in development and advancement over the course of a year. Sr. Dale McDonald, PBVM, Ph.D, provides an update on public policy, and the challenges and opportunities this presents for the coming months. These include school choice, education tax benefits, challenges to private school autonomy, Common Core National Standards, disaster legislation, and ESEA reauthorization. Sister Mary Agela Shaughnessy, SCN, J.D., Ph.D, presents guidelines for Catholic educators regarding the recent surge of concern over social media and legal issues. She provides a list of eudcator guidelines for social media accounts, as well as outlining student harassment responsibilities and the educator's use of social media. Dr. Margaret Reif researches strategies for effective electronic communication, including choosing channels, chosing when the communication should be presented and who should respond, and exploring email use. A checklist of basic email guidelines is also included.
