Arlington, Va. – Msgr. Jeremiah McCarthy will begin work September 1 as the executive director of the Seminary Department of the National Catholic Educational Association. He comes to NCEA from a year of teaching at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California.
From 2002-2009, he was director of accreditation and institutional evaluation at the Association of Theological Schools in Pittsburgh. Before that he served for twenty years at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California, as professor of moral theology, academic dean, vice-rector and rector. Msgr. McCarthy is a priest of the Tucson Diocese.
Msgr. McCarthy will take the department in new directions, including work as a consultant to U.S. seminaries on accreditation, institutional advancement and related fields. He will continue the work of the department, including publishing Seminary Journal and several grant projects.
Brother Bernard F. Stratman, SM is the outgoing Seminary Department executive director. He served as director for seven years at NCEA, from 2002-2009, and has been part-time interim director for the last year.
The NCEA, founded in 1904, is a professional membership organization that provides leadership, direction and service to fulfill the evangelizing, catechizing and teaching mission of the church. NCEA members include elementary schools, high schools, parish religious education programs and seminaries.
