National Catholic Schools Week Theme Focuses on High Standards

Week is scheduled January 27 to February 2, 2013

Arlington, Va.—Catholic schools are noted for their academic excellence and high moral standards. This year’s theme—Catholic Schools Raise the Standards—celebrates the constant attention that Catholic educators pay to increasing the learning and growth in faith of all students.

This year’s logo illustrates a chart of steady growth culminating in the highest achievement of all, a cross representing the faith that underscores all Catholic education.

A new initiative, the National Standards and Benchmarks for Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools, is underway across the country to ensure that all Catholic schools have similar high standards.  Additionally, Catholic educators are participating in a nation-wide educational initiative for all schools called the Common Core Catholic Identity Initiative. The Initiative will produce resources that will enable teachers to infuse Catholic teachings, principles, values and social justice themes into the curriculum content and instructional activities.

To learn more about the week or the National Standards or Common Core initiative, visit the NCEA website at www.ncea.org.

The National Marketing Campaign For Catholic Schools/Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of NCEA and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
