Arlington, The conference will look at the psychological dimensions of cultural orientation and at the cultural dimensions of screening and treatment protocols of international priests and seminarians. It will address questions such as, What is the impact of culture on screening processes? What are the stresses and effects of moving across cultures and great distances? How to assist individuals who may have experienced trauma in their home countries? The Parresia Project, sponsored by the NCEA Seminary Department, is a grant-funded, cooperative response to the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid rise in the number of international priests and seminarians serving the Catholic Church in the United States. The response includes efforts in four areas of activity: research, networking, advocacy, and resource development. The “Psychology and Culture” conference is intended for those who work in some capacity with international priests or seminarians, such as seminary faculty and diocesan priest personnel directors. The speakers include Rev. Gerard J. McGlone, SJ, PhD, the Executive Director of Consultation, Education, and Research at the St. John Vianney Center in Downington, Penn., and Msgr. Edward J. Arsenault, President and CEO of Saint Luke Institute in Silver Spring, Md. The Conference will be live-blogged at both http://parresiaproject.org/ and on Twitter with the hash tag #Parresia. For more information, visit, http://parresiaproject.org/. Va. – Two church organizations are sponsoring a conference aimed at helping church leaders respond to the challenges and opportunities that come with international priests serving in the U.S. The “Psychology and Culture Conference” is June 16-18, 2011, at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, N.Y.
