Arlington, Va.--More than 300 attendees are expected to attend the annual meeting of the Chief Administrators of Catholic Education (CACE) scheduled for Oct. 21-24, 2012, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, San Diego, Calif.

Conference sessions will be organized under the theme “Awakening Possibilities,” an ongoing theme for the annual gathering of Catholic diocesan school superintendents, catechetical leaders and other leaders of Catholic education. CACE is a department of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).

The opening liturgy for the meeting will be held Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Church of the Immaculata on the campus of the University of San Diego.

On Monday, Thomas Groome, chairman of the department of religious education and professor of theology and religious education at Boston College, will deliver a keynote address on a new vision for educating and growing disciples. Hosffman Ospino, assistant professor of Hispanic ministry and religious education, also of Boston College, will discuss cultural competencies during a keynote on Wednesday.

Nearly 20 workshop sessions will address issues such as innovation and financial practice, mentoring leadership, Common Core State Standards and assessment, digital trends, school law, stewardship and evangelization.

New this year is the Listening Lounge, an area for attendees to meet after sessions to further discuss the topics covered or to chat with executive committee members and corporate sponsors over a cup of coffee.

The 7th annual Superintendents’ Academy will meet at the same location for two days prior to the CACE meeting. The academy offers professional development opportunities for new, nearly new or aspiring school superintendents. Discussion topics include the superintendent as spiritual, academic, charismatic and visionary leader. 

The Catholic Diocese of San Diego, encompassing Imperial and San Diego counties, was established in 1936. The diocese counts 982,183 Catholics within its borders. It sponsors 97 parishes and 14 mission sites, 36 preschools, 47 elementary schools, six high schools and two universities. Most Rev. Robert H. Brom was appointed coadjutor bishop of San Diego in 1989 and elevated to bishop in 1990.

Established in 1904, the NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world, representing 200,000 Catholic educators serving more than 7 million students at all levels of Catholic education, in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, religious education programs and seminaries.
