Arlington, Va.—The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) has joined Strong Catholic Families: Strong Catholic Youth, a partnership formed to encourage and change the way schools and parishes partner with parents in the faith formation of youth. Others in the partnership are the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership and the National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministers.
The organizations work together to develop programs to support parents in being positive influences for their children. These programs previously were available only through dioceses and parishes. With NCEA’s participation the program now becomes available to Catholic school families as well.
Kathy Mears, executive director of NCEA’s elementary schools department, is the NCEA liaison to Strong Catholic Families.
“Today’s families need help and support to understand the faith, to understand youth and, above all, to help bring families and faith together,” Mears said. “By making these resources available to our nearly 7,000 Catholic schools in the nation, we increase the possibilities for sharing Catholic values and attitudes.”
NCEA President Karen Ristau said that NCEA is pleased to add Strong Catholic Families to the list of member services. “The Catholic Church always has maintained that parents are the primary educators of their children. Now Strong Catholic Families adds even more support as parents carry out that role.”
Strong Catholic Families offers training for facilitators, PowerPoint presentations for parents and creates opportunities to seek new ways to form children and teens in their Catholic faith.
More information is available on the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry's website.
Established in 1904, the NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world, representing 200,000 Catholic educators serving 7.6 million students in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, in religious education programs, in seminaries and in colleges and universities.
