St. Kateri Tekakwitha

Kateri Tekakwitha, of the Turtle clan, received baptism at the age of eighteen and practiced her religion with such extraordinary sanctity that her life became at great risk. She was forced to flee to a Native American Christian community in
Kahnawake, Quebec where she made a vow of chastity and lived a life dedicated to prayer, penance, and care for the sick and elderly. She died in 1680 at the age of 24. Her last words were: "Jesus, I love you." According to tradition, numerous people who participated in her funeral were miraculously healed of their illnesses. On October 21, 2012, St. Kateri becomes the first native North American to be canonized.
The prayer cards remind us that we belong to Christ. The poster has the Litany of St. Kateri Tekakwitha on the reverse.

St. Francis of Assisi
Perhaps the most beloved saint on the Catholic calendar, St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) is the patron of animals and ecology. On his feast day (October 4), many people have their animals (pet, farm, or exotic) blessed. Along with St. Dominic (1170-1221), St. Francis was founder of a new kind of religious order: the mendicants: those who begged or relied on donations in order to survive. They did not own property, individually or collectively and took a vow of poverty. Their reason for being was solely to preach the Gospel. As St. Francis said: ”Grant me the treasure of sublime poverty: permit the distinctive sign of our order to be that it does not possess anything of its own beneath the sun, for the glory of your name, and that it have no other patrimony than begging.” St. Francis is also responsible for our Christmas Nativity scenes (crèches) by presenting a living manger at Greccio at the Midnight Mass.
The prayer cards carry the Prayer of St. Francis. The posters remind us that preaching the Gospel is not only a matter of words; we must live the Gospel in all that we do.
