U.S. House of Representatives and Senate Pass Resolutions Distinguishing Catholic Schools

Both chambers introduce resolutions supporting the contributions of Catholic education to the nation.

Arlington, VA. - In support of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) National Catholic Schools Week, U. S. Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania celebrated the Senate’s passage of their resolution designating January 28 – February 3, 2024, as “National Catholic Schools Week.”  Representative Darin LaHood of Illinois introduced a companion resolution in the House.

“NCEA is honored to have this public recognition directed by Mr. Rubio, Mr. Casey and Mr. LaHood to highlight the importance of Catholic education in the United States,” said Lincoln Snyder, NCEA President/CEO. “It is a fitting tribute to the devotion of Catholic school educators fulfilling their ministry in service to nearly 1.7 million Catholic school students.”

The resolution states in part, “That the House of Representatives … whereas Catholic schools produce students who are strongly dedicated to their faith, values, families, and communities by providing an intellectually stimulating environment that promotes spiritual, character, and moral development;

Whereas Catholic schools are committed to community service, producing graduates who hold ‘‘helping others’’ among their core values;

Whereas the Catholic high school graduation rate is 98.9 percent, with 85.2 percent of graduates attending 4-year colleges;”
